Orders Workflow

Orders in the IPPG Phlebotomy 3.0 system are requests for service of IPPG to draw blood from patients based on the tests ordered by the physician. IPPG’s scope of responsibility is to safely and accurately draw blood from patients based on the tests ordered and deliver the specimens in a timely manner to a lab for processing.

IPPG DOES NOT PROVIDE TEST RESULTS. TEST RESULTS MUST BE OBTAINED FROM THE LAB OR FROM THE ORDERING PHYSICIAN.

Orders are usually created from faxed service requests or by authorized medical personnel who, acting on the authority and request of a patient’s physician, will input orders into the IPPG system. An order may be created for a patient after that patient’s doctor has ordered laboratory work.

The patient should be identified by his/her Medical Record Number (MRN). If the patient’s MRN is not found in the system, further steps must be taken to identify whether that patient is a NEW PATIENT who is not in the system yet or if the patient’s MRN is incorrect on the order.

Only authorized users may search for patients by name. In most cases, the MRN is the only searchable field when locating a patient.
